Education Otherwise trustees have brought a new website and ‘brand’ image update to our charity. We are pleased to be able to offer a clear and accessible, modern look to the site and to be able to present our information in a dyslexia friendly text.
Our new logo was designed by competition and reflects the professional organisation that Education Otherwise is today. The competition winner was chosen from a wide range of entries and we gained particular pleasure from commissioning his first design, as part of our ethos is to support and promote young people.
Trustees
We have recently said a sad goodbye to Graeme Evans and Tom Crellin is leaving us at the October AGM. Graeme and Tom did sterling work as trustees and are now devoting more time to their families. We at Education Otherwise wish them and their families all of the best for the future.
Two new trustees have joined us and will be standing for full election at the AGM: Kate Woodley Smith and Carol Dyer. Kate is a talented artist who is training as a psychologist. We are lucky to have her on board and you can find Kate’s first art lesson on our blog. Carol is a lady of many talents and a veritable whirlwind of energy who has worked hard to bring this site to being. A big welcome to Kate and Carol from the team.
Home Education
Education Otherwise helpline has been extraordinarily busy this last month, as parents consider home education for their children. A great many parents are finding that they have loved having their children at home and that the children in turn, are far happier being educated at home. Generations of home educated children can attest to that! Many parents are fearful of their children returning to school during the Covid 19 situation. This is a difficult decision for many and the fact that a school cannot keep the child’s place open makes it harder for those looking for a temporary solution.
Trustees are currently collating and analysing anonymised data relating to numbers of home educated children and reasons that parents give for deciding to home educate their children. This will help us to keep informed and offer the best possible service to our members. The research report will be published later this year.
