UPDATE: PHEG has reached its target of £30,000 in less than three days.
From their fundraising page–
“We hit £30,000!
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, shared, and written us lovely messages of support. We’re incredibly grateful and awed by the power of our community rallying for justice.
Since judicial reviews are expensive and we do not have a cost capping order yet, we are leaving the fundraiser open, but we are not increasing the goal.
Thank you again for your support, The Portsmouth team.”
In a breathtaking show of unity, home educators and supporters all around the UK managed to raise a staggering £20,000 in under 12 hours for the planned judicial review against potentially unlawful home education policies of Portsmouth CC.
At the time of writing an incredible £22,418 has been raised in under 24 hours.
The group are hoping to raise as much as £40K in order to fund all processes involved in the legally complex procedure, with a current new target of £30K for the immediate costs of filing, and to help with the upcoming costs.
From their fundraising page–
“Portsmouth Home Educators are absolutely thrilled and humbled by all your messages of support, shares and donations. We would never have imagined that we’d meet our initial target in a little over half a day, it’s incredible!
This allows us to easily finance the filing and associated costs, and cover our representation for a good while. However, Judicial Reviews are expensive, and we know that we are going to need more money to secure our case over the coming months, so we’ve pushed our target up to £30,000 – it would be amazing if we could get to that level of backing at this stage.”
As ever, Education Otherwise stands alongside many others to defend the rights of home educating parents and is proud to be part of such an amazing community.
