Groups where you are
Home Educators around the UK have organised themselves into local groups, providing mutual support, sharing information and resources, and often meeting regularly for social and educational activities. Some are virtual groups that meet via online forums or email lists. You will find many of those groups listed here.
Please note that group details are as submitted by their leaders and are published in good faith. Groups have not been checked by Education Otherwise and listing here does not constitute a recommendation.
Finding a group
If you know the name of the group you're looking for, you can use 'Search local groups' link in the right-hand menu to search for it. Alternatively, you can browse directory entries for your area: select a country, region or county below to see all the entries for that area. The initial list will display brief information about each group, and you can then click on the group's title for more information and contact details.
This directory contains details of local HE groups as defined in the first paragraph above. If you're looking for providers of activities and workshops for home-educated children and groups, or for tutoring services, you'll find them on our weblinks pages.
Adding your group
This directory is open to bona fide home education groups only, not to Free Schools, tutoring services, or any kind of provision other than that described above. All submissions are moderated, and may be rejected without explanation. To add your group, click the 'Add your group' link in the right-hand menu and fill in all of the required fields. NB: for further details of the information required, click on the field title.
We reserve the right to edit submissions for grammar, punctuation and house style. By submitting your group details, you agree to these conditions, and any additional conditions that EO may adopt in future. To amend details or to remove your group from the list, please contact the Local Groups Liaison.
Insurance for HE groups
Local Home Education groups run by EO members are eligible for subsidised Public Liability Insurance at the rate of £10 per year or part year from 1st September. You can join at any time of year. As it is subsidised from EO funds (which means from the subscriptions EO members pay) there are some terms and conditions – for example, we ask for three EO family members from different households to sign up to take responsibility for the group and to keep in contact with us.
Please note that your group must comply with the description agreed with the insurance company, in accordance with the general understanding of a Home Education Group. Details are available in the members-only area of this website.
This information is constantly updated, but some counties may have no groups listed. Please check regularly for new additions, and please get in touch with the Local Groups Co-ordinator via the 'Contacts' page if you encounter any broken links or incorrect details.
